Any discussion or relevant topics regarding referendums or the Soybooru Senate is welcome here. This is where you can find resources such as specifics on how to start referendums, which senators are currently running, their parties and motives; and where you can find current referendums to vote on.
Current Senators:
The Soybooru Senate shall be created in accordance with the following sub-rules.
- The Soybooru Senate shall consist of thrembo Senators, rounded up to 7 to prevent tied votes.
- The Senate shall have the power to approve or deny referendums. It shall choose among itself by majority decision whether to approve or deny them. No referendum shall be passed without the approval of the Senate, regardless of the results of any popular vote attached therein.
- Election: If the Senate lacks any number of members, they shall be elected as follows: The longest-serving Senator, or (if there are no Senators) an admin, shall make a forum post asking for senatorial candidates. Users may recommend themselves or others as candidates on their behalf. After a three-day period, a vote with each candidate listed as an individual choice shall be held. Senatorial election votes shall have options "Multiple Choice" and "Display Voters" enabled, with an expiration time of 72 hours. When the vote expires, vacant Senate seats shall be filled by candidates in order from most votes to least until all vacant seats are filled.
In the event two or more users are tied with the most votes for any Senate seat, a runoff vote shall be held for this seat containing only those users as candidates, but otherwise conducted in the same manner as other Senatorial elections. - Recall: Individual Senators can be recalled at any point, for any reason, by a forum post demanding such action and containing a vote of at least 100 votes with 75% or greater "yes". Recall votes shall be posted in the same manner as referendums but with the option "Display Voters" enabled. If a recall vote is successful, the recalled Senator shall immediately cease their senatorial duties and be removed from the Senate. The Senate shall not veto any Senatorial recall.

How to start a referendum:
Step 1: Correctly format your notion to fit referendum standards. Before you can consider starting a poll to collect votes, you must format your change correctly.
- Your rule must be identical or in similar nature to the already established rules of the Soybooru
- Your rule must be distinctively Booru or Forum sided. This means you must choose whether your rule affects the Booru or the Forum.
Referendums MUST be based upon the addition of a new rule for your notion to be considered.Booru Rule 9: Do not post depictions of margarine.- Posting images containing margarine or similar butter substitutes: Delete -> 1 day -> 3 days -> 1 week -> 1 month -> perma
- Posting images of butter or natural butters: Do nothing
- Posting images containing margarine or similar butter substitutes: Delete -> 1 day -> 3 days -> 1 week -> 1 month -> perma
- Your post must not be a retroactive rule application, meaning you cannot go back and punish anything that applies before your new rule has been passed.
- A referendum to ban (x) person will not count.
Step 2: Make a referendum thread in /META/.
- You must include the rule you have constructed in the entry field when making your thread. Depending on what side of SoyBooru you wish to implement your rule in, you must prefix your thread title with [booru] or [forum] respectively,
- You must include a poll so that users may vote on the referendum. Obviously, you cannot pass a rule without having people vote on it.
- Polls must be set to anonymous and must not have expiry times.
- You cannot edit the thread post after the thread creation, as that will disqualify the referendum. You want to be absolutely sure you have formatted your rule and poll correctly before starting a referendum so you don't get laughed at for being a stupid loser who doesn't do referendums correctly. Nobody likes to be laughed at on SoyBooru, why should you?Forum Rule 3: No commenting or posting past midnight
- Posting between 2 AM - 4 AM UTC: -> Delete -> 1 day -> 3 days -> 1 week -> 1 month -> perma
- Posting between 2:45 AM - 2:50 AM: -> Do nothing
Loading poll... - Posting between 2 AM - 4 AM UTC: -> Delete -> 1 day -> 3 days -> 1 week -> 1 month -> perma
Step 3: Await approval.
Referendums will be decided by Senators.
- Based on who you have voted, you will have 7 Senators deciding whether they agree or disagree with the referendum presented to them. Due to the odd number of senators, ties are impossible.
- If the senate approves by 4 or more senators agreeing on the referendum, the rule is passed and implemented into the rule set, where jannies must comply and moderate the Booru according to the rule you have passed.
- If the senate does not approve, the rule is not added into the rule set. You must wait 2 weeks before your rule can be held in a referendum again, any similar rule or referendum will not be considered.
Alternatively, you may choose to instead have the referendum be decided by popular vote.
You must make it clear in your referendum that you prefer a popular vote, as the senator vote is the default.
- Once the poll reaches 100 votes, a 24 hour countdown starts. Once the 24 hours has elapsed, the poll is closed and all votes are tallied.
- If the poll has 75% or more majority in agreement of the referendum, the referendum is passed and will await Senate approval.
- If the poll does not reach 75% votes, the poll is closed at which point a 2 week countdown starts. For this 2 week duration, any similar rule or referendum will not be considered. You must wait for this period to end before retrying the referendum you wish to pass.Senators have the power to override the popular vote and instead decide referendums via senator vote instead.

Updated to fit current referendum reworks - all previous referendums are now void, so if you'd like your referendum to continue again you must rework it as per the new stipulation
