lifesucksthenyoudie: I fucking hate RobTop. RobTop is an embarrassment of a developer and anyone who defends THAT FUCKING RETARD should fucking die. The feature creep in 2.2 is fucking EMBARASSING. It's feature creep on the levels of fucking Star Citizen and Yandere Simulator. NEWSFLASH RETARD, YOU DON'T NEED TO FINISH EVERY SINGLE PROBABLE NEW FEATURE FOR THIS UPDATE UNDER THE FUCKING SUN. It has been OVER 6 FUCKING YEARS since 2.1. Even if you didn't add a bunch of useless features that you promised that no one is ever going to use, just fucking drop the update. If there's a feature that isn't ready yet, don't finish it. Don't put it in the next update. We can wait for 2.3, we've already waited over half a decade for 2.2 as it is. We all know those features will eventually come, Geometry Dash is supposed to be a game where new features are continuously and rapidly added in small doses, emphasis on the words supposed to. I would rather have a 2.2 that some of the planned features over being stuck on 2.1.1 with no new features at all.
I also hate the fact he's micromanaging EVERYTHING that goes on in the community. HE'S the one who does things like run the social media accounts and perform menial tasks such as rating levels, which has done nothing but create more issues. The RobTop YouTube account is dead, an absolute waste of the 11M+ subscribers that it has. However, my biggest issue with all of this is that while controlling large portions of the community activity might be a menial amount of work, it is eating into time that could be easily used to work on the game and work on the update that you're already many years behind on. The ability to rate levels could be easily handed over to Viprin and the other elder mods, and Viprin should be the one who is running the RobTop social media accounts. Most of the videos on Viprin's channel, such as the level showcases and contest announcements could easily be moved over to RobTop's channel. Hell, RobTop used to feature levels himself he thought he were cool on his YouTube in the early days of the game. Why don't you tell Viprin to go find some cool levels, record them and upload them to the RobTop channel?
>UHH YIKES SWEATY, ROBTOP IS DOING HIS BEST AND YOU NEED TO BE LIKE MORE HECCIN GRATEFUL, HE DOESN'T OWE YOU ANYTHING!!!! HE'S JUST A STUNNING AND BRAVE SOLO GAME DEVELOPER, SO THIS AUTOMATICALLY MAKES HIM BETTER THAN THOSE GREEDY CAPITALIST CHUDS AT ACTIVISION AND EA.
1. Fuck you. 2. If this is his best, then he should either stop developing or do better. Leaving your playerbase in the dark about the future of your game is never acceptable practice, and neither is the constant feature creep. 3. Him working on the game by himself doesn't excuse the poor development of GD. It's not like he's struggling to pay other people and has to do it all on his own, he ABSOLUTELY has the resources to hire a few extra developers to accelerate future updates. https://twitter.com/vipringd/status/1320399338334523392/photo/1 This is a picture of his house for fucks sake. He has all the money in the world to hire a few extra people to help with the game. If anything, the tweets about your big ass house and joking about doing anything but finish 2.2 just frustrate me. They're not endearing at all, they just make me go "INSTEAD OF FLEXING YOUR HOME AND JOKING ABOUT WASTING TIME AND NOT FINISHING YOUR DAMN JOB THAT WE PAY YOU MONEY FOR, WHY DON'T YOU FINISH YOUR DAMN JOB!" 4. I bet you're one of those people who would shit on YandereDev for the same things you defend RobTop on, such as not focusing on finishing the game, constant feature creep, wasting time micromanaging parts of the game that you don't need to, lacking the skillset to properly finish the game while insisting on doing it alone, etc. In fact, I think YandereDev might actually be a better game developer than RobTop. At least YandereDev tried to work with other people (tinyBuild) to finish the game, sure he eventually sperged at them and cut ties, but he TRIED. RobTop doesn't even have that. 5. Okay, fine. He might not owe 2.2. He could one day just announce "Hey I'm never gonna release 2.2, enjoy 2.1 bitches peace out," and to be honest I'd be somewhat alright with that. It'll be closure at the very least. But you're wrong on the fact he doesn't owe me anything, and that brings me to my final point.
As long as he hasn't officially discontinued development of Geometry Dash, he owes me a functional game. Saying that he doesn't owe me anything is bullshit. I paid RobTop $1.99, and in return, he should give me a fun game that works properly. That's how the economy works. But here's the thing about Geometry Dash in it's current state, it's not functional at all, or at least I wouldn't consider it functional. From iOS 14 and onward, the wave trail no longer functions properly. While this is primarily a cosmetic issue, and the wave gameplay worked as well as it did before, a large part of the wave was the solid trail that it left behind as you progressed through the level, so seeing it spaz out isn't a good look. In addition, the wave is one of the most popular game modes in user created levels, so many players are going to be playing through these levels and have to deal with a wave trail that's not behaving as intended. The next bug I want to discuss isn't merely just a graphical issue, unfortunately. After the release of iOS 15, Geometry Dash fails to run properly on iOS devices, the very same platform it was designed for. The game is filled with constant micro-stutters that make the music eventually desync from the level itself. It's not a minor issue that happens after you play a level for X minutes or whatever either, it's incredibly noticeable and it makes the game basically unplayable on modern Apple devices. The Mac port is also in a disastrous state, at least on ARM Macs. The iOS version could easily be modified to run on Mac devices as well, but it doesn't. The Steam version is playable, but it doesn't run natively, it does it through Rosetta 2 which results in game running extremely poorly. Despite the fact that my Mac has a 120 Hz display and the game should run at 120fps to match this, it struggles to even run at 60fps. And what's RobTop's response to all of this? "Oh, I'm not going to fix this, just wait for 2.2 to come out." Motherfucker, these are bugs that are making your game unplayable on your biggest platform and your response is to tell people to wait for an update who's future is up in the air? FUCK OFF.
In conclusion, here's my message to RobTop. 1. Fix the stuttering issues and graphical on iOS and release this fix as 2.1.2. Hold off on developing anything else and just ensure that the game runs PROPERLY on iPhones. 2. Release 2.2. Stop adding new features to it. If a feature is not complete, it does not need to be in 2.2. It can wait. Just take what is finished and release it ASAP. 3. Hand off most of the community management to trusted people like Viprin and the other elder mods. You don't need to manage the community, you just need to code the game. 4. Hire some developers for fucks sake. While this is going on, I believe a campaign should be made to pressure Apple to delist Geometry Dash from the App Store. As stated on Apple's App Store Review Guidelines: "If your app no longer functions as intended or you’re no longer actively supporting it, it will be removed from the App Store," and I believe Geometry Dash in its current state fits this bill. If Apple pulls the game from the App Store, perhaps RobTop might be more motivated to fix the game-breaking bugs the game suffers or hell, even finish 2.2.
