Chud7: Back when I was in Philippines when I was a child, it was really long ago then, around 17 years ago, so I was enrolled to a Philippine school, around grade 1 or 2, I was only thought english and so I had a hard time to communicate with the people there because many people speak Tagalog which I was not familiar with, and we also had lunch in the preschool, and every time we had lunch we will bring our own lunch, or viands as they call it. Some would simply have hotdogs, eggs, last nights adobo, but one common thing is that it would always have rice. they would call the main courses ulam, anyway, there was one day that we were having our viand since it was lunch time, and everyone was eating there in the classroom and there was also our adviser, or homeroom teacher, who was eating with us. I was also eating my food, and I asked my classmates around what they were eating, and when I asked my teacher, she said that her viand was a squirrel, I was almost surprised and when I said if I could try it, she said no. I could not remember clearly but what looked liked in her spoon was whitish and had skin reminiscent of a chicken, I assume that this was cooked in coconut milk, or ginataan, as many filipinos also stewed meat in coconut milk, one example is Bicol Express. Now, I wonder if This was simply a mistranslation as many filipinos were not familiar with english at the time, and also knowing now that squirrel meat is rare in Luzon, and very uncommon unless you live in rural areas like Visayas. I also know that squirrel meat is not used in any of the traditional dishes here in the Philippines, unlike say Indonesia or vietnam where rodent meat consumption isnt very taboo
