How would one go about creating a new variant?

So last night, I shared some variants to see what people would think about them, and so far the reaction has only been negative. Fair enough, it's hard to top any of the most iconic variants out there, let alone make one that will stick with people.
And personally, I'm just here for fun. I'm not here for all the drama, or even the party, I just want to see all the weird and insane things people have created with these faces.
So, if I wanted to make a new face for people to use, should I just create it with no further context? Maybe even anonymously? Help me out here.
