Nathaniel_Higson: @Chud: It's a worldbuilding technique where objects or parts of a world that seem insignificant in a story may play a bigger role in the fictional world than what the author expects. These little details are up to the audiences' speculations and enable them to basically help expand the author's ideas.
The post is a famous comic by Gary Larson from where the said worldbuilding technique is named after and comes from. The objects the cow creates are not meant to be anything by the artist, but they can be subject to inferences or theories from the viewers.

And if you are not aware, "marge" means "I'm confused."
