When I first joined, the community felt gemmy and inclusive, a place where my unique sense of humor and identity could thrive. However, over time, I've noticed a shift that has left me feeling increasingly unwelcome. The moderation team, once a source of support, now seems more focused on enforcing rigid standards that stifle creativity and individuality. This change has made it difficult for me, as a trans woman of color, to express myself freely and authentically.
The newer userbase often seems disconnected from the gemmy values that initially drew me to this platform. I've encountered comments that feel dismissive or even hostile towards the nuances of my identity and humor. It's disheartening to realize that the laughter and camaraderie I once cherished have been overshadowed by a culture that doesn't always validate or celebrate diversity in the gemmy way I had hoped.
I want to make it clear that this isn't a decision I've made lightly. I've cherished the connections I've formed and the moments of gemmy joy we've shared. But ultimately, I believe that stepping away is necessary for my own well-being. I need to find spaces that embrace who I am and allow me to share my perspective without fear of judgment or exclusion. Thank you to those who've supported me along this journey.
