Go watch Star Trek (not Nu-Trek) again and you will notice that its society is orientated around the human experience, rather than the direction we're stupidly going in: the human experience morphing to fit the needs of society. Nobody in that show is a phone addicted gremlin or needs neural implants to keep up with their corporate job or whatever. Their AI is very powerful and many duties are entrusted to it, but it's all at arm's length. Its existence has freed humanity to BE human - not given humanity a competitor.

We are at stage 1 complexity, moving into stage 2. even stage 3 would most likely result in total societal collapse. it only gets worse from there. whether it has feelings or desires (qualia) is irrelevant to it's ability to perform tasks, tasks which could be detrimental or terminal to us.
