In defense of the kiwi, the New Zealand government in the past has dropped rat poison pills in the wild to be eaten by feral dogs, and are now planning to exterminate all feral cats in the islands by 2050.
Considering that New Zealand continues to become worse year over year, it is hardly surprising that the government would work on eradicating feral cats before dealing with the feral animals they call immigrants, but nonetheless they have. It is just sad to see a nation far so fall as to indiscriminately kill animals, especially cats. I guess it is all in the endeavor of saving the Kiwi, but we will see how that fares.

Dropping rat poison and eradicating animals with no plan makes less sense than TNR. It would act as a jobs programme if nothing else, and would not take much more work. It is silly to think you can just drop poison and eradicate all of the animals, some will find a way to survive and just continue to breed and you have the same issue in a few years anyway (See: Feral dogs).Yes protect the native animals from evil habitat destroying feral cats and dogs
It is also just bad for the soul.

The cats and dogs are living beings too. I don't like your choice of words since "destroy" instead of kill implies you see animals as mere objects.Feral cats destroy birds or something so yeah who cares
And if the strategy is to just spread poison everywhere, who's to say it won't backfire and kill other animals too? Might even get the kiwis they're trying to protect.

eh, sometimes cats just half-assedly ransack bird nests destroying some of the eggs in/on them either by stepping on them or making them tilt n' tumble until they fall off the tree/cliff/building/whatever. This last case scenario is somewhat irrelevant here though, since we're talking about kiwis

Yes and anyone who says otherwise has no knowledge on how introduced animals affected island ecosystems
Cats live everywhere, meanwhile said birds are endemic
