"Stalin raped a 13-year-old girl" debunked

This claim is apocryphal, and the main source of its propagation is Simon Sebag Montefiore, author of the pop history book The Court of the Red Tsar and other biographical works about Stalin.
The main aim of pop history is to create an engaging narrative, which often involves embellishing or cherry-picking details. Several copies of the book I've found omit the story entirely.
Most historians and academics who have studied Stalin do not consider the story to be credible. There are no primary sources in Soviet archives to corroborate this claim, either.
Even disregarding the apocryphal nature of the claim, it doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Stalin left the village nearly 13 months before the child was born, having arrived in the town of Kureika, where Lidiya lived, in mid-March 1914. He could not have fathered a child with Perepryginova in 1913 or 1914, since he moved in with the Pereprygin family in mid-May 1914.

This originates from the Siberian Times, a tabloid news source. Western tabloids parroted the article, where it spread to the west.
