The Islamic Conquest finishing the Visigothic Kingdom in did speed up unification of Romans and Visigoths into just the Christians as an ethnic group in Spain. All Christian kingdoms in Spain during the Reconquista existed in opposition to the Islamic realms of the Moors, who knows what would've happened had not the Moors arrived and conquered from Africa to Spain for the Christians to rebel and war against.
