if a poll

  • gets 100 or more votes
  • has a 75% majority
  • adds, removes, or amends a properly formatted rule

    • To add a properly formatted rule, you must write the entire rule as it will appear on the rules page, along with any subclauses. The punishment can also be defined. Example:

Rule 17: No commenting or posting past midnight:

  • Commenting between 2 AM - 4 AM UTC -> Delete -> 1 day -> 3 days -> 1 week -> 1 month -> perma

  • Posting between 2 AM - 4 AM UTC -> Permanent

  • Exception: Commenting or posting between 2:45 AM - 2:50 AM -> Do nothing

  • NO retroactive rule applications (i.e a new ban won't let you delete old posts, or ban someone for something they did before the rule)
  • referendums MUST be anonymous
  • after a poll reaches 100 votes, it is closed and tallied 24 hours later
  • polls must NOT have expiry times
  • if a poll fails, it has a 2 week cooldown period before it can be recreated
  • if a referendum is edited after being opened, it is disqualified

then that change will be implemented to the the ruleset and jannies have to follow it.

i read it but still thought it meant senators just approve or deny voted-in referendums, and regardless of the result means regardless of it winning, it has to be approved by the senators first, that's why i supported it
I mean that is what the rules say should happen but if the senators have no interest in following their own rules this needs to be shut down.
There is also nothing stopping a senator or two from filibustering a change by refusing to vote (locking out the vote forever)

it seems like half of you barely even read the referendum before voting it which ironically proves exactly why it should be set up like that

Can't you change the fucking rules? Good God this isn't the constitution, this is a fucking soy woejeck site.

It doesn't say anything about filibustering, if the majority of senators vote yes on something then it is passed, refusing to vote in an election doesn't mean we never have a president now does it?

And if it’s a tie? Then what? What if someone just doesn’t wanna vote on it and halts it forever

How can it be a tie if there's 7 senators

Either four or more senators (assuming there are 7 total) vote yes on it, which would be a majority decision per referendum, or they don't, in one form or the other. There's nothing in there about ties or filibusters or whatever because there doesn't need to be

in that case a majority doesn't support it and a majority doesnt oppose it so there's no majority for passing or vetoing it so it would just float around in limbo until someone changes their mind according to the rule

Yeah but what's the problem with that, if a referendum isn't decided why should it be closed? the issue is still unresolved
