Did you know that in 1974 FIFA World Cup both West and East Germany faced eachother on a match for the group stage of the competition, where the East Germany won by 1-0, a fact that was heavily celebrated by the socialists. However, nowadays many believes that West Germany wanted to lose on propourse in order to pick easier opponents on World Cup knockouts, and this worked, because West Germany won that edition.
