I don't buy into his part that everyone in the past was like this, not only are his supposed evidence of the Iliad and part of the Old Testament are not reliable at all for the time period nor they should be expected to provide insight into how humans think, they aren't books of psychology.
There's also the question of isolated societies which found to have a similar "normal" mind capable of knowing that people do something not because they are commended but because they want it or exhibit clear self-awareness? He answer to this by saying that there is no truly isolated culture and even trades with non-bicameral people is sufficient to influence or break it down. But this leave the huge question of why it took so long for people to leave the bicameral mind since apparently it only ceased around 3000 BC for eurasia despite the supposed fact that the bicameral mind is so fragile that brief contact with unicameral people is enough to beak it down.
As for the proof of "The deceased being clothed and fed, given water, and treated as if alive. " It's better to use the answer with the least assumptions than one with more. There are people who have done and still do similar things, wouldn't it make more sense that people in the past did it for the same reason they do now?
