Here’s the core idea:
To send something from Earth to the Sun, you don’t just “shoot it straight down.” The Earth is already moving around the Sun at about 30 km/s, so the object inherits that sideways speed. To fall into the Sun, you actually need to cancel that orbital velocity.

You’d need roughly 30 km/s of velocity change in the opposite direction of Earth’s motion.

Why a slingshot won’t work
